Balu Park | Local Heritage Playground Project
Balu Park in Jiuru Township, Pingtung County, has been transformed into a distinctive recreational destination inspired by the rich history and agricultural identity of the local community. The redevelopment brings elements of Jiuru’s heritage into an interactive environment where children can discover local stories through play.
With roots in the region’s tobacco industry, the playground pays homage to the architectural character of traditional tobacco-curing barns. The design also incorporates imagery of lemons—one of Jiuru’s signature agricultural products—seamlessly integrating recognizable local symbols into the play environment.
The park features three themed play structures offering varying levels of challenge, encouraging children to climb, crawl, slide, and explore. Beyond the main play zones, the park incorporates an ecological pond, walking paths, a roller-skating area, and multigenerational spaces designed for visitors of all ages and abilities.
